We are saddened by the recent school shooting
The Youth Council expresses its heartfelt sympathy for the families of all the victims of October 24 school shooting. A former student of Central Visual and Performing Arts High School killed a student and a teacher and injured seven more before being killed by police, making it an all-around tragedy. The profound pain rippled throughout the city–and beyond. Over the years, some of our Ma’at Youth attended VAP. We are all connected. We must remember this on our healing journey. Life in America is unpredictable, especially for Black children and youth. Listen to your children. Hug your children. Fight for your children.

The Youth Council for Positive Development is deeply grateful to everyone who has joined us on our 45-year journey. We honor the Mamas and Babas of the Village who were dedicated to our development. To the members of the OBS—both past and present, as well as those who have made their transition—we stand on their shoulders. In the spirit of Imani, we value their contributions to the freedom struggles.
