MaureenCoatHatPlease join the Organization for Black Struggle and the Youth Council for Positive Development  as we celebrate our 34th Anniversary Celebration.  The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014.  Our host will be the Gateway Classic Foundation at 2012 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.

This year’s theme is “Black Liberation and the Fight for Economic Justice.”  In 2013 we saw low wage workers of all stripes push back against the ruling class and take a stand for living wages and human dignity. From the fast food strikes to Walmart workers, we watched working people and families push back. We also witnessed  government workers stand up against ongoing assaults on the public sector.

Maureen Taylor from Michigan Welfare Rights will be our keynote speaker.  She is a battle- tested organizer who was transformed by her own struggle as a low wage worker in Detroit. Maureen has been consistent in her commitment to raise the quality of life for poor and working class families.
