The St. Louis Coalition for Human Rights celebrated its 21st annual program by recognizing area high school contest winners and unsung sheroes and heroes. Panelists Rev. Dietra Wise Baker andhigh school counselor Naomi Warren spoke powerfully on this year’s theme, “Criminalizing Students: How are Human Rights Being Violated in Schools.”
Malaika Pedzayi-Ferguson, a student at Crossroads College Prep, was first place winner in the High School Expressions Category. Damen Alexander, from Saint Louis University High School, placed first in the High School Essay Category. Both received $150.00 for their submissions which were read at the celebration.
Other winners in the Essay Category were Azura Fondren and Terrance Sullivan. Second and third place winners in the Expressions Category were Devin Gordon and Teandra Wilkins. Tajonai Putman and Greg Tomlin received Honorable Mention. All received cash prizes.
